RPA to support Equipment Engineers

CHALLENGEIntroducing new software tools to develop equipment strategies significantly impacted the Engineers. When adopting new technology, users must be retrained and get used to a new tool. The main challenge, however, was the software's impact on the efficiency and output of our Equipment Engineers.
The drop in efficiency was significant, and the work backlog rose to unattainable levels. Unfortunately, in some cases, engineers even emotionally “checked out" and indicated they wanted to stop using the new software.

  • Our Approach

Stopping using the new tool and reverting to the old one was not an option. When diving deeper into the mechanisms by which engineers populate the various fields in the tool, it turns out this activity consists of many repetitive, manual tasks, such as clicking, copying, and pasting. This is a textbook example of low-value, recurring, monotonous tasks where technology can assist and take over.

One of the client’s engineers partnered with a senior RPA developer for Hi Automation to deliver value. The Engineer identified the workflows while the Hi Automation RPA Developer programmed them into the Robot. Within a month, the first workflow was up and running, and only two weeks after, another two bots were delivered and activated.

  • Main Results

    ● Engineers can now get to work quickly by developing equipment strategies.● Some of the Engineers are “checking back in.”● Time saved: one-off 5,5 man-years, and 1 man-year annually.● The RPA solution is now being rolled out globally, creating similar value in multiple sites.● Many different use cases are being identified in various departments.● Multiple RPA automations are in the development stage.

Hi Automation for Hotel chain

RPA enables a hotel chain to maintain its rapid expansion

CHALLENGEA young chain of affordable luxury hotels with a history of strong growth recently received fresh capital to encourage even faster expansion.
The challenge was to scale up the internal processes and grow the organization. The IT Director had experience in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with his previous employer and wanted to explore the opportunities here.

  • Our Approach

Ideally, we would compare three RPA platforms to determine the best fit. However, we looked for another solution because conducting the tests in a test environment and a real-time production environment was impractical.
Since our client had previous experience with UiPath, we decided to test the platform's applicability in this environment.
Working with people throughout the organization, we identified 16 potential use cases, including applications in the customer contact center, various financial processes, handling “no shows,” and supporting the IT crew that flew out to test all the IT systems in a newly built hotel.

  • Main Results

    ● The robots handle 80% of the e-mails that enter the Customer Contact Center.● Robots support IT staff in the systems testing of a newly opened hotel in the field, preventing the IT department at the base from being drained of resources.● Improved financial reporting.● More effective dealing with “no shows” to increase revenue per room.

RPA for Manufacturing

Halving the production cycle time and reducing operational costs

CHALLENGE
A leading manufacturer of custom precision components wanted to halve its production time from 4 to 2 weeks. The production process was complex, involving multiple machines and a slow quality feedback loop.

The company is highly skilled in Lean Six Sigma, which has already shortened the cycle time from eleven weeks to four, but it has reached the limits of that approach.

  • Our Approach

As a first step, production was analyzed using Process Mining. It quickly became apparent that there were significant differences in cycle times among the workstations. Moreover, synchronization with a subcontractor was found to be inadequate.
The factory layout and machine groups were to be adjusted differently. The company’s production process was synchronized correctly with the subcontractor's, which was done in close collaboration with the subcontractor.

  • Main Results

    ● Production time halved from 4 to 2 weeks.● Smooth, waste-free flow between the company and the subcontractor.● A shortened quality feedback loop results in significantly reduced quality costs.● Lower operational costs.

Our Most Important Hyperautomation Modules

Hyperautomation, also known as Intelligent Automation or Intelligent Process Automation, is a collective term for technologies that work together to automate more complex business processes that require human insight. These technologies don’t just execute tasks—they also learn and improve. In other words, the automation “understands” (to a certain extent) what is happening in the organization.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) automates repetitive, rule-based tasks by deploying software “robots” that mimic human actions. RPA bots generally operate via the application user interface (UI) like a human user would. RPA can be easily integrated into your existing IT systems without modification.

Intelligent Document Processing (IDP)

Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) automates the classification and extraction of information from emails, documents, and PDFs. It employs various AI technologies, such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Machine Learning. With IDP, you can quickly and accurately convert large volumes of (unstructured) data from documents, emails, or forms into structured information and process it in your systems.

AI Solutions

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a collective term for technologies and methods that enable computers to display “intelligent” behavior. This means that—like humans—they can learn, reason, make predictions, and, in some cases, even make decisions on their own. AI relies on mathematical models, algorithms, and (often large quantities of) data.

Process Mining

With Process Mining, you can map out and analyze your actual business processes using the digital “event logs” from your IT systems. Unlike Business Process Management (BPM), which describes processes in theory, Process Mining visualizes how processes truly run in day-to-day practice.
